... IN THAILAND
The Skal movements in Thailand started in 1956 when a group of leaders in
the tourism industry got together to establish Skal Club of Bangkok. The
displays of friendship and amicale spirit by the founders and members of
the Club were so impressive that they led to the formation of Skal Club of
Pattaya and Skal Club of Chiangmai.
To coordinate Skal activities, increase awareness of the movements and
expand coverage, the three Clubs joined forces to establish the Skal
National Committee for Thailand. The efforts of the National Committee
resulted in the formation of Skal Club of Phuket and Skal Club of Songkhla/Hadyai
and increased participation in Skal international events, such as Asian
Area Assemblies and Skal World Congresses. Unfortunately, due to business
commitments, two Clubs were not able to sustain their activities.
The successes of the Asian Area Assemblies and Skal World Congress in
previous years were results of the combined efforts by Skal International
Thailand (National Committee) and the Clubs indicated above.
At this time there are 6 Clubs in Thailand, i.e. Skal International
Bangkok, Skal International Chiangmai & North Thailand, Skal
International Koh Samui, Skal International Pattaya & East Thailand,
Skal International Phuket and Skal International Hua Hin.
The 67th Skal World Congress at Pattaya from October 15 to 20, 2006, and
the 37th Asian Area Congress at Koh Samui from May 21 to 25, 2008 were
well attended.
