Also
known as FVF, the Florimond Volckaert Fund was named in 1954 to honour the founder
and first President of the Skal Movement. It assists Skal members financially in
times of need or distress.
Skal members worldwide receive grants of loans from the FVF for wide-ranging
reasons. For example, the Fund has covered (but not limited to) surgical and
hospital expenses for unemployed Skalleagues or partners; financed education for
orphaned children of Skal members; paid for equipment to improve the quality of
life for the housebound; assisted individuals during natural disasters; and
scores of other personal (not business) needs.
The FVF is available in times of reduced income, serious or prolonged illness,
medical intervention not covered by insurance and other justifiable
circumstances approved by the FVF Trustees, as defined by the By-Laws. Full FVF
details and procedures are available on the Skal Net, http://www.skal.org.
Skal International Thailand has allocated an amount of US$ 250.00 annually for
contribution to projects to raise funds - such as production of the Skal Cook
Book or the Silent Auction – or donation of the whole amount to FVF.
“ I never believe, in all my years in Skal, participating in collecting funds
for the FVF, that one day I would be on the receiving end. This has brought home
to me just how important the Fund is and how we must work together to ensure
that it continues” –from an FVF recipient.
